Golf tips for beginners

Here on this page you will find all the golf tips for beginners that you will ever need.  Golf is a fantastic sport that can be enjoyed alone or with company.  Over the course of a year several beginners take up the game.  Below are my golf tips for beginners.

Start with the basics

One of the most important golf tips for beginners is to learn the basics. With good basics you will play good golf.  To have good basics you should start out with the setup, this includes the grip, stance, ball position and posture.

There are 3 different types of grips that you can use.  They are the interlocking as used by tiger woods, overlapping grip and the baseball grip.  It is recommended that beginners start with the baseball grip.  To grip the club properly hold it in your left hand and place it across all your fingers so it ends touching your palm. Fold your hand over holding it firmly and form a v with your fore finger and thumb.  This v should point between your shoulder and head.  Then place your right hand on the club and do the same making the V parallel to your other hand.

Your stance should be shoulder width for virtually every shot but it can be narrower with wedges.  This is to retain perfect balance in your swing which is very important. Ball position depends on what club you are using.  For wedges and short irons you want the ball to be in the middle of your stance, for mid irons and long irons you want it slightly forward and for woods you want it nearly inline with your left foot.

Posture should be relaxed and athletic look at tiger woods as an example. Bend from the hips and feel as though you are sitting on a chair.

What clubs and how many

In golf you are only allowed 14 clubs and no more but you can use less if you wish.  They normally consist of woods irons wedges and a putter.  One of the best golf tips for beginners is to get your clubs custom fit for you.

Short game

The short game is the most important part of golf because nearly 75% of shots are from within 100 yards.  Therefore the best golf tips for beginners are short game tips namely one.  Always practice your short game more than the rest of your game if you really want to drop shots.  This should involve putting, chipping, pitching and hitting out of bunkers and greenside rough.  Aim to get up and down from anywhere.

My final golf tips for beginners are to get started with your club golf pro and book some lessons with him he will get you started of and send you in the right direction.  Once you have learned all the things on this page and practice them you will then advance to an intermediate level golfer.

Getting started

Golf is a brilliant game and I recommend getting started either by taking a few lessons on the golf swing with your pro or by putting and chipping.  You can start out putting and chipping in your house.  Go to your garden  drop a few balls and chip to something just to get a feel for the golf club and golf ball as well as the swing.  This will break you into the game gently.  Once you feel you are making progress then I would suggest working on your golf swing and go to your pro to learn the basics of the golf swing.

Once you have had a few golf lessons with your pro I recommend practising them in a field or at a golf driving range until you feel comfortable with everything.  Once you start to feel comfortable with how everything works and how you are getting used to the golf clubs its time to hit the golf course.

Everyone had to start playing golf somewhere and everyone was once a beginner even tiger woods and he is arguably the best golfer of all time.
