Advantages and disadvantages

Having or buying a set of used golf clubs has good points and bad points about it.  The main reason why people will buy them is because of the massive price reductions you can often get on them compared to buying a brand new set.  Therefore the main disadvantages to buying them is that you have no idea how well they have been look after or how much longer they are likely to last aside from physical dents.  The other disadvantage is if the club was to break all of a sudden from the inside out with rust you will have to buy a brand new club which can cost a lot.  This is the risk you take when buying them.

Should you buy them?

Yes you should buy them if you can find a decent set.  This is very important because you should not buy ones that are damaged beyond repair.  If the cost is not much lower on them it is often better to just buy the set brand new.

What to look for when buying them

When buying used golf clubs you want to check over it for signs of wear and tear.  The main areas you want to look at are the head grip and shafts.  If the grip is slippy it will need to be replaced which isn't too much of a problem however if it is a whole set of irons it could cost up to £50to replace them all.  You want to check the head for any serious dents as they can affect the performance any minor scratches or dents wont.  The main thing you want to check for is bent shafts or rust.  Rust is the worst thing you can find on second hand golf clubs as it may be eating the club up inside out.

Where to get them?

You can get used golf clubs virtually anywhere now.  They are very popular in golf shops so you should look in your local golf shops.  They are also very popular online so you could check online although postage may be expensive.  You should check golf shops online as well as ebay and amazon. The only problem with buying online is that you dont get to inspect the club yourself.
